We're back...not in our house yet, but back in columbus. We are going to try to get moved back in this weekend. We had a great time in colorado! Emerson became very independent while we were gone, which was nice and kind of weird at the same time. I am so used to her wanting me right by her side but she was happy just knowing I was somewhere in the area. She bonded with her Mimi (my mom-it was supposed to Meemaw but emerson calls her Mimi), her Pa (my dad-it was supposed to be Meepaw which we will continue to work on), her aunt Mal Mal (my sister Malorie), and her uncle Ty (my brother Tyler). She has been asking for them all day, I guess they will all need to make a trip to columbus. We spent lots of time outside because the weather was perfect...80's and sunny! We went to my brother's graduation from college...yeah Tyler! We also found my old monkey that I got from santa many years ago, and as you can see emerson loved it. She loved it so much that we stuffed it into our suitcase and brought it home.

Off to Colorado...
Emerson and I are going to Colorado for the week. It will be nice to spend time with family and get away from the stress of the fire. Hopefully when we get back our house will be ready for us.

Our week
Well...we are surviving the fire. We are very thankful to Nick's step dad for letting us live at his house until we can go back. The clean up crew and contractor don't think we will be able to be back in our house for another two weeks. We are definitely home sick, but glad we are in a house instead of a hotel. Emerson has been really into her baby this week. We can't leave the room or house without her. She has been teaching her baby about all of her toys, feeding her baby, and reading to her. It really is very cute, but didn't think I was going to have a girl so into babies, but I guess I was so why wouldn't she? We had to run to the mall and I let her bring her baby and she held her so tight, if she was real she would have choked her. I really am happy that she has bonded so well with her baby, but sometimes Nick and I get a little jealous because the baby gets way more hugs and kisses than we do...oh well. Emerson tried watermelon this week and she was underwhelmed. She would take a bite and then spit it out and then laugh like she just heard the funniest joke. She is so funny. And I have to say that she is walking a lot now. Not 100% of the time, but very close! Despite everything we are going through, we have had a great week together!

A fire...
We were just starting to get back on schedule from our trip, but when I came back from a friends house Friday afternoon our kitchen was on fire. I had the crock pot on and was gone for a little over an hour, but you're supposed to be able to leave them all day...right? When I pulled up to our house I could hear the alarms. When I opened the door there was smoke everywhere and when I peeked around the corner into the kitchen I could see flames on the sink. I know weird that the sink was on fire. I called 911 and they were at our house in five minutes. That might have been the longest five minutes of my life. My heart was racing and I couldn't stop crying. I have no idea what was going through emerson's head but she sure was excited to see the fire truck. After they put it our they asked me to take a look at everything and it really wasn't that bad. The sink and counter top will need to be replaced and lots and lots of cleaning. The thing that upset me the most was that the fireman told me I should have tried to put it out myself. I explained to him that I had my one year old with me and he told me I should have left her on the front porch. I decided not to argue with him about how I would never leave emerson on the front porch by herself to fall down the concrete stairs and crawl into the street. He also said I could have had it out before they got there because it took them 4 minutes to get there. I guess I was a little confused because I thought if you walked in on a fire that the first thing you do is get everyone out of the house and then you dial 911, at least that is what I learned in first grade...maybe the rules have changed.
Nick and I were in complete shock for the first couple of days and I am still a little shaken up, but everything is going to be taken care of thanks to our insurance. There has been a cleaning crew there all week and a contractor is going to start fixing the kitchen and painting all the walls. It will all be back to the way it was soon. We can't wait to be back home and I think that will be the last time I ever use a crock pot.

Florida
Many of you may be thinking that we had a very long trip to Florida and that is why I am just now getting to writing about it, but actually we got back a week ago and this is the first time I have had a second to blog. I will get to the reasoning later. We had a GREAT trip! It was very relaxing and filled with fun activities. We went to the pool everyday, sometimes twice and emerson loved it! Nick and I had to jump in because it was a bit cold at first. We may have been a little over-protective when it came to the sun because emerson was the only kid in the pool with a hat on. She didn't go anywhere without her hat and sunscreen on, but I have to say it payed off because none of us got sunburned. Another daily activity was going to the park. She has learned how to climb up the stairs, crawl over to the slide and slide down by herself. We played in the sand a lot and it was very messy! The first day Nick wanted nothing to do with the sand but by the end of the trip he was digging and making sand castles. Emerson loved putting the sand in her mouth, but didn't like the taste (surprise, surprise) but for some reason that didn't stop her from trying to eat it. Around 1 pm everyday we would all lay down for a nap...i know doesn't it sound great! It really was a great trip, we needed it.
