What...I have to share?

We had friends over for dinner last night and their little boy Jackson is almost a year old. Everything Emerson had, Jackson wanted and was determind to take it from her. Emerson did pretty good with sharing except when Jackson had her baby, that was where she drew the line. Everytime I would try to take a picture Jackson would smile and get all excited and emerson would look at me like...not now mommy.

Oh emerson...part 2

Emerson was having one of those off days on Tuesday and wouldn't nap, which makes for a very long day. I went in her room a couple of times to lay her back down and during one of the many I checked her diaper and found a stinky present. While I was changing her diaper I noticed her face and hands had brown stuff all over it. I panicked! I looked in her crib and nothing, then I noticed some chunks missing on the railing on her bed. She had been chewing on her crib and had paint all over her face and hands. I was glad it wasn't what I thought it was, but a little upset that her crib was now damaged. I didn't think that we would need the rail protector because she already has all her front teeth and has never done that before, but she is now getting her molars and wants to chew on anything she can.
This morning when she woke I went into her room, gave her big hugs and asked her, "how are you this morning?" She looked at me and smiled and said, "happy." So cute! She changes everyday and it's amazing how much she learns and retains. I asked her what she wanted to do today during breakfast and she said pool. So off we went to the pool. It was pretty fun, but a little exhausting because she didn't want to sit in the raft so I had to hold her. If she didn't want to be held she would climb in and out of the pool, which meant that I too was in and out of the pool. Oh well...good exercise for me. (I don't have any recent pictures because I need to charge my camera)

Oh emerson...

We were on our way to the zoo when Nick whispered, "look at emerson." I quietly turned around and saw that she had some snack on her chin. I asked her, "emerson, do you know you have some snack on your chin?" She look at me like...yeah mom I know, I'm saving it for later. We couldn't stop laughing! (sorry the picture isn't great, I was having a hard time holding the camera still in the car).
Nick is officially a second year resident! I have to say that it was a hard year for both of us, but it sure did go by fast. Having made it through this past year, I know that Nick and I can get through anything. That doesn't mean that we don't have some rough months ahead, I just feel like we are better prepared to handle them (that doesn't mean I won't have my occasional meltdown...sorry nick).
Hope you all are having a great summer! Where did June go?

15 month stats

Emerson had her 15 month check-up last week and the doctor was very impressed by her, which of course made Nick and I very proud. She is still our little peanut only weighing in at 19 pounds 12 ounces. I really thought she would weigh more than that but the doc said her weight is perfect for her height (she's going to be super short like me). Emerson has learned to count to four and knows all her colors. We are working on putting two words together and our manners! Nick and I are now realizing that we don't have a baby anymore, but a big girl that wants to do everything we are doing. I know I've said it before, but life just goes by so fast.
We had a relaxing father's day with a nice breakfast out, a long walk, and lots of play time outside. Emerson gave daddy lots of hugs and kisses throughout the day. She knows how lucky she is to have such a loving daddy.

our sick monkey

Lets see...we've been really busy since the last blog. Maybe I shouldn't say busy, just distracted. Emerson got another ear infection last week and is finally feeling better. We were a little worried about her because she was acting really differently this time and her temp got as high as 103. She wouldn't eat or drink anything and we kept thinking she was going to become dehydrated. We tried to give her juice (which we never do) and I went and bought her popsicles but she was not interested. Hopefully she will come around on liking popsicles because what kid doesn't like popsicles? The next day she seemed much better and then she broke out in a huge rash. One of emerson's friends had roseola which is just a virus so we thought she had that because she had all the symptoms but I called the doctor the next morning (because of course she broke out with her rash after the doctor's office was closed for the day) and they wanted to take a look at her. Turns out that she didn't have roseola, just a reaction to her ear infection. Needless to say it was an exhausting week because when she is sick she wants to be held and have me right by her side. Nick is working nights this month which means he sleeps during the day so I had to push through and find a way to get through it. She is much better and almost done with the meds. We go back to the doctor on thursday for her 15 month check-up, but unfortunately that means she gets 3 shots.
Emerson got a belated birthday gift from her aunt lala (Nick's sister Lacey), which really suits her. It is a shirt and socks that say monkey (which is what Nick and I call her) made by the good life brand. Super cute! Thanks lala! Emerson is really into her car right now. She pushes it around the block and gets in and out, in and out. She has started to throw little tantrums when we have to go inside and leave the car behind. I'm not really sure how to handle the tantrums yet, but I better figure it out soon! Will post after her appointment...can't believe how fast time flies!

A trip from Gran!

Nick's mom, Gran, was here the past five days for a visit and I have to say that it was great! We spent most of our time outside because the weather was great and because Gran doesn't get much sun or nice weather in Scotland. It was nice to get an extra pair of hands with work on our patio, around the house, and with Emerson. Emerson was really into doing what Gran was doing especially if she was on the computer. It was hard to see her go and Emerson said "Ga" all the way home from the airport, but the distance makes us stronger and helps us realize how important family is.
We went to the zoo and I let Emerson go into the petting zoo. I know many of you may think I'm crazy (Nick did at first), but I thought it was a good experience for her. I only let her touch one goat on the back because who knows the damage she could have done. She kept wanting to touch their eyes and all I could picture was one of the goats eating her hand off.
On a side note, our house is completely back to normal and everything looks great.
